Madison Opera

The Madison Opera was separated from the Madison Symphony
Orchestra in 1994, creating two completely separate
organizations with their own staff, budget, funding sources and
so forth. This was a major challenge to the Opera, especially
financially. There have been deficits, though not so large as
to make them impossible for wealthy patrons to cover. The
town's musical movers and shakers hope the company can survive
and grow, for it is one of the best mid-size companies.
